Queens-Brooklyn Mini Convention,
January 15, 2007--a Resounding Success

On Monday, January 15, 2007, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, two of New York City's three (and simultaneously of Long Island's five) AGO chapters gathered in Douglaston, Queens for a shared mini-convention.

The Queens Chapter is in the midst of celebrating its fiftieth anniversary. To help them, Brooklyn (founded in 1960) joined resources and talent to provide an excellent day of learning and fellowship.

Gerald Anders hosted us at the Community Church of Douglaston, home to several stunning grand pianos, a fine Austin pipe organ, and a very decent Baldwin electronic in the chapel.

The presenters included more doctors than an average emergency room. There were presentations on health and wellness, easy organ repertoire, issues of service and hymn playing, programs on Louis Vierne and Dieterich Buxtehude, choral reading sessions and plenty of time to enjoy one another's company. Lunch could be had in nearby restaurants and ran the gamut from diners to Thai food.

The day was extremely well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Congratulations to the leadership of both chapters, and to the broad spectrum of membership who attended. This was truly a day to remember.
